How common are mental illnesses?

The WHO suggests that almost 50% of the world’s population suffer from a form of mental illness which plays an impact on their daily lives. I in 4 persons are said to develop a mental illness each year, and this develops into a serious illness for 1 in 50 persons.

Why is mental health so important?

Richards et al, 2010 found that an individual’s emotional well being will in turn affect their physical health, possibly leading to further problems such as turning to abuse of drugs and alcohol. Having a stable mental health is vital to allow individuals to find positive coping mechanisms for stress, when things are not going according to plan.

Why is Inspirited Minds a faith-based organisation?

Thankfully, there are many organisations out there who aid sufferers of mental illnesses. The findings from our independent research show that in many cultures, mental illnesses are still regarded a subject which is preferred to be kept hidden. We found that this ideology exists amongst the culture of people of an Islamic faith, therefore, we decided to use Islam as our tool to educate and change these thoughts imbedded within these cultures. We wish to highlight that mental illnesses are just ‘normal’ as physical illnesses, which require immediate assistance.

Do you help people of other faiths?

Yes. Our work is largely based on aiding sufferers in the Muslim community, as we found there is a lack of such organisations available. However, should we be approached by people of another faith, we will ensure to help them just as passionately and professionally.

How much training do your volunteers have?

Our professional advisors will have the adequate qualifications required to provide their services. Any other volunteer will not be working directly with clients, unless they have the qualifications to do so. Their roles will be allocated based on what experiences and skills they have; which will be harness and progressed into their roles.

How can I get hold of your telephone number?

Unfortunately, we currently do not have a telephone service. Should you have a telephone appointment with an advisor, they will contact you at the appointed time. God willing, we will have a telephone service available in the foreseeable future.

Why haven’t I heard back from Inspirited Minds?

We ensure to respond to any any questions or queries within 15 working days. Should you have not heard from us, please contact us here. It may be that there was an error when sending your message via the website. We will ensure to respond to your message at our earliest convenience.

I need help now. How can I contact you?

Inspirited Minds is not an emergency service. If you require help ASAP, please contact your local GP or the NHS emergency service on 111.

Is there a charge for the services?

Our email support services are free of charge. Face-to-face, Skype and telephone counselling will incur a fee after the first session (face-to-face: £20 per session, Skype and Telephone: £15 per session). Clients are able to apply for funding should they not feel they can pursue counselling with the charges applied. We welcome donations in order to enable our service to continue in a high standard and so we can offer clients to apply for funding for our services.

How long do the counselling sessions last?

Counselling lasts for six sessions (around 50 mins each), the first of which, the initial assessment, is offered for free. Should a client feel they require further sessions (and this is agreed with the counsellor), further sessions can be arranged.
