Job Title: Counsellor/CBT Therapist/PWP
Team: Counselling-Research project
Required Hours: To run support groups as part of a research project – 2 hours x 6 sessions
Availability: Must attend quarterly IM team meetings (January, April, July and October, all are online, but we aim to have one face to face event per year), monthly group supervisions (which usually last up to 2 hours) and meetings with their manager at the agreed times. Must also be able to travel to Birmingham or London.
Position: Paid
Location: Must be based in London, and able to travel to East London, mostly on weekends but may require travel on weekdays also.
Duration: Temporary for 1 year with a possibility to stay on to do client work
Start date: 1st of June (induction will be conducted prior)
Purpose: The counsellor/CBT Therapist/PWP will be running support groups for young women struggling with symptoms of low mood
Role Responsibilities
- To conduct support groups in a controlled environment with clients
- Attend training for the study and running of the intervention
- Attend feedback session after conducting support groups
- Use adapted materials based on Islamic psychology
- Aid support workers with debriefing after the sessions
- Use verbal interaction to explore behaviour, attitudes and emotions
- Help clients to understand and address their inner conflicts and reflect on issues to help them make positive changes
- Establish a relationship of trust and respect with clients
- Actively listen to client concerns and empathising with their position
- Support clients in their personal development and in achieving personal goals
- Agree on group rules in the sessions
- Refer clients to other sources of help, as appropriate
- Attend supervision and training courses
- Maintain high levels of professionalism and confidentiality
- Keep records and using reporting tools as sought by the organisation
- Maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times
- Ensure all due diligence is carried out with regard to services provided to clients
- Conduct all tasks with regards to any and all relevant legislation, policies and procedures
- Participate and take on any further tasks in relation to the post, which may benefit Inspirited Minds
- Liaise with other team managers/volunteers when required to grow and progress Inspirited Minds
- Work respectfully and cooperatively with colleagues, taking on board suggestions and recommendations
Essential Requirements
- BSc in Psychology or social sciences
- Qualification with a professional body like the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) or British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) – we are currently not able to take on trainee or student counsellors
- Experience of abiding by the ethical framework for counselling or CBT or Low intensity work
- Experience working with Muslim clients
- Experience of working in mental health or project management
- Able to demonstrate the ability to manage multiple personalities
- Able to work remotely safely and efficiently
- Able to travel as and when required, and some weekday/evenings may be required
- Solution-focused attitude and able to take own initiative
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Have a good working understanding of Islam, Mental Health and the needs of the Muslim community
Desirable Requirements
- Qualification or training in Islamic Psychology or Islamic Counselling
- Experience of working within a charitable environment
- Experience of working in a team with multiple roles
- Able to demonstrate agile ways of working and adaptive thinking
- Experience of public speaking, facilitating workshops or support groups
- Experience of Slack and Notion
