Understanding Trauma: An Islamic Approach
Zoom Webinar
Sunday, 11:30AM to 2:30PM
October 29, 2023
This is a 1-part masterclass on an Islamic Approach to Trauma, taking place for 4 hours in person and online (hybrid).
About this event:
Trauma is a lasting emotional response that results from living through a distressing event/s and can effect our entire being. It can alter how we think, and feel within our body and mind. Trauma manifests physically, and emotionally. How we respond to trauma can have a long lasting impact on our lives; from the relationships we currently have, to how we enter new ones, from how we view the world, to how we feel within ourselves.
Trauma underlies almost all mental health experiences, and all of us have or will experience some sort of trauma in our lives. From car accidents, to childhood experiences, from intergenerational trauma, to witnessing natural disasters.
However, the cycle of re-living our trauma can be stopped when we decide to understand our own trauma using Islam; when choose healthy coping mechanisms, and take examples from the Quran and Sunnah and find comfort in the words of Allah. Leading to post-traumatic growth.
It is our social and collective responsibility to ensure we both speak and act with knowledge, advocate for those struggling with their own trauma or when recovering from a traumatic experience and support ourselves and others when needed.
By attending this workshop, you will be contributing towards the mission of improving the safety, mental health and wellbeing of the Ummah, In Shaa Allah! You will also receive a certificate of attendance.
