Seeing the happy lives and perfect families with beautiful spouses and wonderful looking children of celebrities on Instagram, I always wonder why does Allah give so much perfection to some people. Like they have everything they desire. Beauty. Wealth. Love. Children. Happiness. Success. Fame. Literally everything. And Allah tests some people with so many difficulties and pain. I mean, I don’t understand this hikmah of Allah swt.

As individuals, we are susceptible to comparing our life with others and think that what we have been given is less than others. You need to remember that every individual has been blessed with qualities and goods in life which are incomparable to others and these come in all shapes and sizes. Expressing gratitude to Allah is a significant way of improving our relationship with God, being thankful to Him and living a fulfilling life. Top Tip: Write down or make a mental note of 5 things you are grateful for daily; every week increase the amount you write and try writing different things down. We often forget what Allah has blessed us with and forget to be thankful.
Prophet Ibrahim (AS) describes Allah’s blessings in the most beautiful way: “…Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink; and when I am ill, it is He who cures me; and who will cause me to die and then bring me to life; and who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the Day of Judgement.” (Qur’an 26:78-85)
The desires (beauty, wealth, success and fame) of this world are displayed in materialistic forms, yet they exist in the spiritual realm too. As individuals, we have the power to navigate this into the spiritual form. Take your time to channel your goals in life and work on them. Remember it may not be a smooth ride, as Allah tests us with trials and tribulations to bring us closer to Him and develop contentment for Him, but the important aspect is to have patience.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Ahead of you there are days of patience, when patience will be like grasping live coals, and the one who does good deeds will have the reward of fifty men who do deeds like his.” (Abu Dawud)
Therefore, with patience, Allah will grant you what is written and will always grant you what is good for you.
