Misconceptions of Jinn (Spirit) Possession in relation to Mental Health

This is a 2-part webinar series on Misconceptions of Jinn (Spirit) Possessions. This series takes place for 4 hours across 2 days.

About this event

“The Shaytaan flows through the son of Adam like his blood.” [Bukhari & Muslim]

Jinn (spirit) possession and issues pertaining to this are often used as sweeping statements to brush away struggles of mental health. This can have an adverse impact on those who are genuinely struggling with their mental health, particularly those who require professional medical attention.

These “go to” excuses stemming from fear of the unknown can unfortunately put those suffering in difficult and distressing situations. This also contributes to Muslims not seeking early and appropriate intervention for their mental health out of fear of being accused of Jinn possession, being misunderstood or simply just being brushed away.

It is our social responsibility to ensure we speak and act with knowledge, advocate for those struggling with their mental health, and break down stigma associated with misconceptions relating to both Jinn Possession and mental health.

By attending this webinar, you will be contributing towards the mission of improving the safety, mental health and wellbeing of the Ummah (community), In Shaa Allah!

You will also receive a certificate of attendance.

Dates and Times:

  • Part 1: Saturday, 19th March, 11am-1pm
  • Part 2: Sunday, 20th March 11am-1pm

By attending Part 1 and Part 2 of this webinar, you will learn about:

  1. The nature of Jinn, Jinn possession and mental health misunderstandings.
  2. The Muslim history of mental health and the vicious cycle of stigma encountered throughout the times.
  3. Genuine signs of Jinn possession and how to manage symptoms through appropriate Islamic methods, and their significance.
  4. How to distinguish between Jinn possession and mental health issues, where there may be an overlap, and how to best support someone that may be experiencing either or both conditions.
  5. Practical and spiritual advice on how to better mental health and wellbeing, and where to obtain additional professional support or information.

We anticipate this webinar to be highly interactive through the use of regular group discussions and case studies.
